The Green New Deal targets to provide economic security for all – even those who are unwilling or unable to work.

The U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the Democrat of New York, and the U.S. Senator Ed Markey (R), the Democrat of Massachusetts have apparently taken to the media to announce the Green New Deal legislation. According to the official declaration, the Green New Deal proposed by the Democrats aims to generate a more environmentally sound nation with economic benefits for all and sundry – apparently, even the ones who do not intend to join the workforce.

As per sources familiar with the knowledge of the matter, an overview that was circulated by the proponents of the legislation states that the plan basically aims to seek a major transformation of the society which may plausibly rid the nation of fossil fuels. In addition, the plan also targets the generation of numerous family supporting-wage union jobs.

The aspect that has seemingly captured maximum interest with regards to this legislation is the fact that the plan entails something for citizens who do not wish to work – the overview notes that the Green New Deal targets to provide economic security for everybody who is unwilling or unable to work.

If credible reports are to be relied on, the resolution patterns itself after President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal, that aimed to rescue the United States from the Great Depression. However, the FDR plan did not include any benefit for those lying willingly idle.

The Green New Deal incidentally, harbors a long-term goal seeking the shift of the entire U.S. to renewable energy in the next decade or so.

As per sources familiar with the development, the overview document that was released by the New York Representative, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s office, is the one that includes the terminology ‘unwilling’. On the other hand, it has been reported that the resolution outlining the Green New Deal actually does not include the term ‘unwilling to work’.
